It might be known to all about the one of the oldest as well as largest metropoliton is "Calcutta". It is famous for its own glory. It is also known as "City Of Joy". Kolkata ( formerly known as Calcutta), in Bengali "Kalikata", was the Capital of India during "British Raj". Now Kolkata is Capital of West Bengal. Kolkata is the second largest Metropoliton after after Delhi. It is famous for its own Lankmark -  Victoria Memorial, The Maidan, Fort Williams, The Indian Museum, The Eden Gardens, Howrah Bridge and also many Pilgrim Spots like Dakhineshwar  Kali Temple, Kali Ghat,Belur Math etc. It's a densely populated area. Kolkata is the sum of specific experiences like it's heritages, environment, culture. While every one of them might not be detiled under, this database is a good starting  point for anyone who needs to explore Kolkata  somewhat differently.



Kolkata is nicknamed  " The City Of Joy" for many reason. The contemporary city unlike any other , variety hues, too as flavours combined attempts to give the city its unique atmosphere. Instead of faster-paced metropoliton regions of Bombay, too as Delhi, Kolkata can come across as relaxing , too as put back, but go here for of adequate duration and also the city's gradual tempo would make you shake with the beat too. You would overwhelmed with pleasure to find this city thriving culturally. Kolkata's intense paradoxes, the intellectual situation being alongside poverty, produce a combination of emotion and struggle. 


BRITISH RULE IN CALCUTTA

Kolkata began its journey as Calcutta. It was the capital of British India from 1773-1911. British started their East India Company in 31st Dec,1600 founded by John Watts, George White. Britishers ruled for about 200 years. In 1690, Job Charnok, an agent of East India Company first came to the city and bought 3 villages ( Sutanuti, Kolkata, Govindapur) from the local landlord. In this way they started their business in India & in 1699 , East India started developing the city as a presidency city. Calcutta was the main Business Port of Britishers. Gradually they  captured and ruled all over India. 



THE  STRUGGLE  FOR INDEPENDENCE

Many freedom frighters fighted for Indian Independence for many many years. India got indendence on 15 th August,1947.

  • NORTH KOLKATA

North Kolkata is famous for its heritage with its thousand, decaying constructions. North Kolkata is the oldest region of the city, the fascinating region dominated by narrow  small lanes and Hundreds of Century-old Buildings. Its neighborhoods are - "Chitpur, Bagbazar, Shyam Bazar, Shobha Bazar, Belgachia, Maniktala, Hatibagan, Jorasanko Thakur Bari. Famous "Boi Para" which is situated in College Street. Hundred Century Buildings are the most famous heritage of North Kolkata. Alongside Graffity, Hand-pulled Ricksaws, Tram line, Metro line, Famous Sweets(Rasgulla & Misti Doi) all are the attractions of North Kolkata. Dumdum being the center for the communication hub of Kolkata having International Airport, Metro Railway, Circular Railway, Land Railway.

  • SOUTH KOLKATA

South Kolkata is also an important part of Kolkata. It is less congested  than North Kolkata and it is  modified version of North Kolkata. Here roads are broad and wide, top-floored apartments, shopping Malls are it's features. Missionaries of Chariety (Nirmala Hriday) founded by Mother Teressa is situated here. Important neighbourwoods are Garia Hat, Tollygunge Club, National Library, Ballygang, Bhabanipur, Alipore Zoo, Rash Bihari Evenue, Kalighat Temple, Rabindra Sorobar Lake, Dhakuria etc.
